Through the story of a young man named Ricky Rodriguez, journalist Lattin tells the extraordinary story of The Family (also known as the Children of God), an extreme Christian cult that flourished under the direction of "prophet" David Berg. Rodriguez was one of an alleged 13,000 children born into The Family between 1971 and 2001, and his life was characterised by sexual abuse from his "family" from a young age. This, and his tragic path to an adulthood which found him wanting to hunt and kill his abusers, is charted here.
