One of the earlier terms for proselytization in the Children of God. It is a conflation of "literature" and "witness".
The term arose when David Berg wrote "Wonder Working Words" and "Shiners?--Or Shamers" in 1973, informing cult members that their job was no longer to witness the Gospel, but to "litness" (distribute his writings).
