A new disciple or convert. The term also implies that the newcomer is not yet ready to receive the "meatier," more controversial doctrines of the group -- babes are said to be ready only for "milk" but not for "meat".
1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word.
