PSALMS FOR KIDS!--PSALM 1! 6/86 DO 2368
--Bible Time with Grandpa!
1. Praise the Lord! Let's pray first, shall we? (David: Amen, thank You, Jesus, for Your Word, Lord, that we can have a little devotions before we start our day! Please bless us now as we read, Jesus, and help us to remember the Psalms and get lots out of them, to get good Word time and to lean on You through our day, in Jesus' name!) Amen! PTL! I'll just read the Psalm this morning, and we'll recite it some other time, okay? PTL! Thank You Lord for Your Word!
2. "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly." What does that mean? Who are the ungodly? (Techi: The people who don't believe in the Lord?)--That's right. "Ungodly" means not Godly, without God. How could you walk in the counsel? What is counsel? (David: Counsel is like people who get together and talk matters over.) Counsel is advice or teaching. To "walk in the counsel of the ungodly" would be to go to public school, the anti-Christ American schools. That would be walking in the counsel of the ungodly, wouldn't it? (Children: Yes, it would!)--Or taking advice from wicked people.
3. "Nor standeth in the way of sinners." We don't want to go the way of sinners, right? "Or sitteth in the seat of the scornful." You know what a seat is, but who are the scornful? (David: People who don't agree or who put others down.) They make fun of the Lord and the Bible. They scorn the good, put them down or make fun of them.
4. "But his delight"--whose delight? (Children: The Lord's delight.) No, it's not the Lord. "Blessed is the..." (David: Man, a good man!) A good man, "His delight is in the law of the Lord." What is the law of the Lord? (David: The Bible!) Yes, but can you put it simply in one Word? How would you put the whole law of the Lord in one word? Come on, you even know that little saying! "God's only..." (David: "...Law is Love!") Yes, Love is God's law! "His delight is in the law of the Lord"--the Love of the Lord, in other words--and you could say, "In His Love doth he meditate day and night!" You could substitute the word "Love" for "law"!
5. "And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water." Have we got any trees around here planted by a lot of water? (David: Yes, we water them a lot!) We water them a lot, don't we? And the ones that get the most water grow the most, don't they? (David: Yes, they do!) "He'll be like a tree planted by the rivers of water"--so if he's a tree, what's the river of water? (Techi: The Word!)--Right! Exactly right, Honey! So if you're planted by the river of God's Word, you'll flourish like a tree! You'll be firm in foundation too, you'll hang on!
6. "Who bringeth forth his fruit in his season." What's a Christian's fruit? (Techi: Souls!)--Right! Your fruit is more Christians, the souls you win! (Techi: Yes, like "By their fruits ye shall know them!"--Mat.7:20) If you plant an apple tree, what's the fruit of an apple? (Techi: More apples!) What's the fruit of an orange? (Children: More oranges!) So what's the fruit of a Christian? (David: More Christians!)--Right! It's not the fruit of the Spirit, that's the Spirit's fruit, but your fruit is souls! (Techi: The fruit of the Spirit is Love.) That's the fruit of the Spirit in you, and Love does help win others.
7. "He bringeth forth his fruit in his season." Does an apple tree grow apples all year around? (Children: No.) It has a special season. Right now you're in training, but one of these days you'll be out there witnessing and that will be your season to bear fruit, see? You're already bearing fruit now through us, through helping us get out the Word that helps the missionaries to bear the fruit, see? Now the farmer doesn't actually grow apples out of his ears and out of his mouth and that sort of thing, does he? (Children: No.) Well, without the farmer to help the fruit trees and to water them and prune them and gather the fruit, they couldn't bear fruit very well, could they? "In his season" means there are special seasons everybody has for bearing the most fruit.
8. "His leaf also shall not wither." What happens when a leaf withers? (David: It dies.) What does the leaf do? What is a leaf on a tree for? Do you know what it's for? (David: I think it's to store goodness for the tree.) The leaf is actually the factory that makes a kind of sugar by what's called the process of photosynthesis. By having a leaf out in the sunshine, the leaf then makes this sugar inside it that feeds the tree.
9. Now Christians are supposed to have fruit, we just talked about that, and they're also supposed to have the fruit of the Spirit in them. What are some of the fruits of the Spirit? (Children: Love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance!--Gal.5:22,23.) Very good! And if you have all those things in you, the fruit of the Spirit, then you'll have fruit, won't you? And what is your fruit? (Techi: Christians.)--More Christians, that's right, souls won. One's the fruit of the Spirit and one's your fruit, see?
10. The fruit of the Spirit actually is produced by the Water of the Word being absorbed by the plant! It gets the fruit of the Spirit first and then it has fruit! But without the leaves it couldn't have fruit. So what else does a Christian have to have besides the fruit of the Spirit and winning souls? What do they have to have to do that? They have to do something, don't they? And what do we call that? We all have what around the Home? (Techi: Jobs!) We have jobs, works, and without the works you'd win no souls, would you? Without the works you wouldn't do any good! You have to have works! You're not saved by your works, but if you are saved you'll have works! Every tree has to have leaves to produce fruit, or else the leaves wouldn't have any fruit. Of course, the Lord didn't like it when a tree had nothing but leaves, right? You need both! You need to have leaves, they're your works!--Your good works that help produce fruit!
11. Now what are your works that help produce fruit? (David: Your making it easy for others to do their work.)--Yes, what else? What kind of works win souls? (Techi: Witnessing!)--Right! Witnessing is some of your most important work! (Techi: Or if you write letters for your Mail Ministry.) Yes, or if you're helping others with the kitchen work or you're sweeping the floor or mopping or helping somebody else, those are all your works, right?--And that helps to win hearts and souls and love and that's your good works. The leaves are your works. So when it says, "His leaf also shall not wither," then your what won't wither? (Children: Your works!) Your works won't wither! They'll grow and prosper! They'll get nice and big and green and work hard to produce nourishment for the tree.
12. "And whatsoever he doeth shall prosper!" What does "prosper" mean? (Techi: It means grow.) That's right, grow and become fruitful and flourish! (Techi: It won't wither.)--Right, just the opposite of wither, it means to grow and to be green and have lots of good works!
13. "But the ungodly are not so"--they're not like that--"but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away." What's the chaff? (Techi: In the olden days they used to throw it up in the air.) They still do it in some places. They have a big flat basket and they put the rice or grain in it. At first they sort of beat and pound on it to separate the hulls from the rice. Then they put it in this big basket and what do they do? (David: They throw it up in the air when it's windy and the chaff blows away!) The chaff is a light hull that the wind blows away, and then the rice or grain or wheat or whatever it is falls back into the basket. In this case, it's wheat mostly.
14. Corn is a little different. It's on a cob and you have to husk it. I used to do a lot of corn husking! You have to husk corn, we call it "shucking," and we used to shuck a lot of corn and then have to cut it off the cob when we were going to can corn for the winter so we could have nice canned corn all winter long! We didn't have to wait until next fall for it, we could have it all year!
15. But anyhow, the wicked are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. The chaff is the useless part of the grain, right? The Lord lets it grow on the grain to protect it to begin with, just like we're growing in these countries and we're protected by the System. But one of these days when Jesus comes we won't need the System any more and He's just going to let the wind drive them away!
16. What does the wind symbolise? Is He really going to blow away the wicked with the wind? Well, sometimes He does, with storms and things like that. But what does the wind symbolise? What happens to the wicked a lot of times?--All kind of disasters and troubles! He blows them away, especially if they persecute God's people. They'd better watch out or God will toss His people up in the air in the Rapture and He'll blow the wicked away! (David: Yes, and then we'll come back down again.) Right! Exactly! We'll come back down at the Battle of Armageddon!
17. So "therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the Judgement." They're not going to stand, they're going to dive into the Lake of Fire! So they're not going to be able to stand in the Judgement! They're going to fall in the Judgement, right? "Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous." We're not going to have wicked sinners and evil people in our congregation! Where are we going to congregate? (David: In the Heavenly City!)--Right, and we're not going to have any of them there, are we?
18. (Last verse:) "For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous"--He knows which way we're going to go, right?--Up! "But the way of the ungodly shall perish." He knows which way the ungodly are going to go--down!
19. We got a whole lot out of that one little Chapter, didn't we? Would you like to have some more nice little devotions with Grandpa some mornings when our breakfast times both happen to land at 7:30? (David: Yes, it was really fun!) If I'm ready to eat by 7:30, we'll have a little Bible Study together, otherwise you can eat your breakfast and have Bible Study with the others, okay? All right, David, you prayed to open our study, now Techi can pray the closing prayer, okay?
20. (Techi: Amen! TYL! TYJ! Thank You for the good study, Lord! Please help us to have a good rest of the day, Lord, and please bless Grandpa and Mommy and help Mommy with whatever she does, and Grandpa too, and everybody here, please bless us for this day! Help us to do our best. Thank You for Grandpa giving this little study to us, in Jesus' name, amen!)--Amen! As we pray together the prayer You taught us to pray: (Prays the Lord's Prayer.)
21. (David: Mommy, we got a whole lot out of one little Psalm!) (Maria: That's wonderful!) We had a little Bible Study with Grandpa! Did you like your little time with Grandpa? (Children: Yes!) All right, whenever we eat breakfast together then we'll have devotions together, okay? We can call it "Bible Time with Grandpa!" "Study" sounds too difficult, how about just "Bible Time with Grandpa"? Okay, GBY! It's time to go to work! (Techi: Thank you Grandpa!) I love you! Thank you for staying and having a good time together! Bye-bye!
