Legal Case Mexico, 1978

From XFamily - Children of God

According to an internal Family newsletter dated May 1978, on Janaury 19, 1978, approximately 30 members of the Children of God were arrested during raids on Family Homes in Mexico City, Merida and Chihuahua. The newsletter does not specify the charges except to note that "It seems they were filing charges on the basis of "corruption of minors" due to some of the FF Letters. In Mexico, this is a criminal charge punishable by up to 12 years in prison."

According to an account written by Watchman, "a friend of ours, a fish who had been FF'ed introduced us to a lawyer who agreed to take over our defense" and who took "money out his own pocket to pay bribes to officials." According to the same report, all those arrested were released after spending more than a month in jail and sentenced to pay fines (with money provided by a king). The foreigners were deported to the United States after their release. One of those arrested and deported was Carole Lloyd (aka Palestina).
