Members of The Family were encouraged to shun perspectives of "the world", or rather any point of view that was incongrous with the cult's beliefs. These perspectives were negatively characterized as "worldly" invoking such Bible verses as:

John 15:19 - If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

Romans 12:2 - And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
